Senior Automation Engineer – Building Management Systems (BMS)

We are seeking an experienced, technically strong, and highly motivated Automation Engineer for Building Management Systems (BMS) to support the successful delivery of sophisticated international projects. Based in Vienna, Austria, you will contribute across the full project lifecycle and help create reliable, high-quality automation solutions for demanding building environments. For the right candidate, we are prepared to support relocation to Vienna.

The role

This position covers the technical lifecycle of BMS projects, from sales support and pre-project clarification to engineering, commissioning, and final handover.

The role centers on three priorities: high-level programming of BMS solutions, development of sound system architectures, and confident understanding and verification of automation and electrical diagrams.

These capabilities are the professional core of the position and the main basis for engineering quality.

Key responsibilities

• Program, test, optimize, and commission BMS and building automation systems.
• Develop robust, scalable system architectures for building management and automation solutions.
• Prepare, review, and verify automation and electrical diagrams, and check drawings for correctness, consistency, and implementation readiness.
• Select and configure BMS products and components from Siemens, Schneider Electric, Loytec.
• Translate customer and project requirements into reliable, efficient, and maintainable technical solutions.
• Support sales and pre-project activities through technical clarifications, concept development, scope definition, feasibility reviews, and early risk and interface analysis.
• Participate in technical discussions with customers, consultants, and internal stakeholders during the offer and concept stages.
• Coordinate and instruct installation and manufacturing colleagues, subcontractors, and adjacent trades on site.
• Represent the company professionally in front of multinational customers.
• Maintain clear technical documentation, reports, commissioning records, and handover packages.
• Travel as required for project execution, technical clarification, commissioning, and customer support.
• Continuously develop your technical expertise and stay current with technologies, standards, and best practices.

Required qualifications

• Strong hands-on experience in programming and commissioning BMS and building automation systems.
• Proven ability to design system architectures for BMS projects.
• Solid experience in understanding, creating, reviewing, and checking automation and electrical diagrams.
• Practical knowledge of Siemens, Schneider Electric, Loytec automation products.
• Good understanding of building services and technical systems, including HVAC, control, monitoring, and energy-related infrastructure.
• Experience contributing to sales support, pre-project clarification, technical proposals, and early-stage solution development.
• Fluent German and English, written and spoken.
• Willingness to travel internationally and relocate to Vienna, Austria.
